Murfreesboro is a great place to raise a family. With so many livability factors, like job opportunities, great schools, and healthcare options, it’s no wonder that so many families are eager to call this section of Middle Tennessee “home.” Of course, with any growing city, there is a growing interest in fun, family pastimes. Thankfully, there is no shortage of kid-friendly activities in the area. From free events to delicious ice cream stops, here is our list of kid-friendly activities in Murfreesboro, Tennessee:

Murfreesboro Playgrounds

Who doesn’t love a FREE, kid-friendly activity?! There are quite a few playgrounds in Murfreesboro to help provide the kids with some much-needed time in the sun! McKnight Park, Cason Trailhead, and Kids Castle (at Old Fort Park) are all great options. There are also plenty of other parks to choose from all over Murfreesboro!

Murfreesboro Pools

All Middle Tennesseans should have a go-to list of local pools to beat the Tennessee heat! Sports*Com is at the top of our list! They have a large outdoor pool, complete with a zero-entry area for toddlers to play in. They also have a splash pad, several slides, a floating bridge, and a climbing wall! Their admission prices are very affordable, and even more attractive on those desperately hot days.

But for the days when the sun is just a little too much for the kiddos, Patterson Park has a great indoor pool with a play area for the kids. And Beyond Aquatics is another great location to get in some splash time. They offer swim lessons, Mommy and Me swim classes, and several other opportunities for every member of the family.

Ice Cream in the Boro

Summertime and ice cream go hand-in-hand, and Murfreesboro has some crave-worthy venues to choose from. The Soda Bar is definitely worth a try! Not only do they have some tasty ice cream flavors, but they also have delicious sodas and other desserts. Plus, it’s hard to beat the free splash pad and cornhole field sitting right outside their front door! (Parents, did we mention they can add a shot of espresso to your ice cream? That little boost of energy can go a long way in keeping up with the kids!)

Murfreesboro’s other yummy ice cream shops include Sweet Cicis, Hattie Jane's Creamery

Marble Slab, Baskin Robbins, and Scoopy's Ice Cream Bar. Tennessee summers are long, so why not give them all a try?!

Local Sports Clubs

For the kids who love sports, Murfreesboro has a few different groups to choose from. Murfreesboro Athletics has a wide assortment of sports like basketball, lacrosse, tennis, football, soccer, and more! They also have opportunities for children with disabilities—check out Miracle League! Parents can also look into the Murfreesboro Soccer Club, the Boys & Girls Club, Premier Athletics Murfreesboro, and Above the Rim Gym (Basketball Academy) for more sports options.

Activity Centers

Murfreesboro offers a few family-fun centers that provide unique entertainment for the whole family. For example, Go USA Fun Park provides go-karts, an arcade, batting cages, a driving range, and a mini-golf course. And Phazer Kraze Laser Tag currently hosts Murfreesboro’s biggest laser tag arena. Sky Zone trampoline park is a great indoor venue to help the kiddos use up some of their seemingly unlimited energy. And finally, Skate Center West, and Lanes Trains and Automobiles are two other venues that are ideal for some Friday night family time or even for hosting birthday parties.

Educational Venues

If you’ve been following along with our blog posts, then you likely saw several educational stops in our blog Murfreesboro: Pockets of the Boro. We talked about Earth Experience, Cannonsburgh Village, Stones River National Battlefield, and Discovery Center at Murfree Spring. But, in addition to those, several other venues provide educational opportunities for kids.

One of those places is Wilderness Station at Barfield Crescent Park. It’s a great place to bring kids to see animals like turtles and snakes. Their trails are great for exploring nature, and they offer educational backpacks for the family to take on the trails. In addition to these, they offer specialized classes for different age groups. Kids who love the great outdoors would enjoy adventuring with the Wilderness Station!
